Overview

The Biology discipline comprises eight degrees based on modern biology, each with an emphasis on the applications of the chosen area. Degrees in Biological Sciences (Cell and Molecular Biology), Biological Sciences (Microbiology), Biological Sciences (Food Science) and Biological Sciences (Human Health) provide a general education in biological sciences, while also reflecting the overall emphasis and specialisation of the programme followed in the third and fourth years. All these degrees enable graduates to pursue a career in a wide range of areas within the field of biological sciences. The Applied Marine Biology degree deals with the sciences basic to marine studies and specialises in applied aspects, equipping graduates to contribute to the management, conservation and exploitation of the marine environment. The degrees in Brewing and Distilling and Food Science, Technology and Management provide a focus on science and technology, but also introduce management and business skills that prepare graduates for both technical and management positions in the corresponding industrial sectors. The Biological Sciences degree is an attractive option to students wishing to study a selection of courses from the full range, providing maximum flexibility and the opportunity to study areas of particular interest.
